The Jesus and Mary Chain are fucking awesome. There’s no real way to get around it.
In the interest of paring down unnecessary gear, I’m thinking of selling The Most Beautiful Guitar I’ve Ever Owned. It’s a guitar that sounds and looks amazing, but that amazing sound is not one that somebody like yours truly is really going to go to very often. It’s still in mint condition for a reason.
That’s not to say I’m done with lusting after guitars, however. I’ve wanted a semi-hollow body for longer than I wanted a Telecaster, and the recent acoustic purchase has only enhanced that desire. There appear to be some decent guitars in that realm avail for decent money (though they will require swapping out pickups). Hmmm.
In other news, writing TV is fucking fun — especially the kind of soapy/John Hughes-y kind of pilot I’m working on now. Something about the quick set-up and pay-off of television that makes it a blast. A lot less stressful than I’ve found features the last few years.
Speaking of features, the first feature is progressing. It’s a slog to get through this first draft; given how much I’ve petered out in this stage of things the last few projects, I suppose this shouldn’t be a big surprise (and frankly, it’s not that big of one), so it comes down to just focus, repetition, and Gettin ‘Er Done.
Oh, and Black Rebel Motorcycle Club is the shit, in case any of you didn’t know. Blues-folk noise rock. Great shit.
If only somebody would do that kind of thing but add drum machines and synthesizers.

I loved the Pixies’ cover of HEAD ON… JAMC are pretty good.
You know who else is great? DEATH. I was listening to Symbolic the other day and Chuck is just the man.
Sellin’ the Tele? Wow. Those hollow bodies sound amazing – did you check out the Yamaha ones? sweeeeet. Seriously.
My new rig is sounding good – but need to ask your advice on pedal board set up. That “gate” pedal I got is awesome – takes out all the crap noise in my playing.
Oh, and there may be a quick GA reunion at Craig’s on April 3rd
Is the Chuck in Death Mr. Chuck Biscuits?
Yamahas look SO NICE — the SA2200 is fucking gorgeous — but haven’t played them yet. Whatever I get, it’s going to be on the cheap side, which limits things rapidly (especially if replace the pickups — thinking some Seymour ’59s). Can’t believe how much prices of things have gone up in the last couple years. My Tele now streets for $500 more than it was when I bought mine! And my Fender Twin $700 more!
Really excited to see the new rig. Dug out my pedal board and started playing with it again so I should be refreshed on any questions on that front. Going to drop a couple of those older pedals as well and pick up a proper fuzz methinks… fuzz factory is great for fucked up shit, but too chaotic for everyday use…
AWESOME on the GA reunion. Will GA be playing the bachelor/bachelorette party?
Not not Biscuits… Chuck Schuldiner, lead git and vox. The latter albums are so progressive. Fantastic.
Yeah, the SA22000 is what I was thinking of – but they are not cheap…1500 at the cheapest. I know what you mean about prices – the ‘59 Fender Bassman re-issue is so expensive now. There are a ton of things I’d like to have but… well… this wedding aint cheap. Although JC made out like a bandit at her wedding shower. We have unopened boxes of stuff all over our place!
As for the rig I need to get a pedal board with power supply going so I’d love to see how you have your set up at some point…
GA “reunion” will probably take place a little earlier as not to scare off everyone… I’m excited!
I’m thinking this, even though I’m bleeding money for this wedding right now:

It looks like “the answer”
I think its time to “get a/the band back together.”
Currently Absorbing:
Anvil/Metal on Metal…
Whoa. That G-Systems unit looks like serious business.
Feeling you on the band thing. Some new originals are afoot on this side…
Glad you guys had a good time at Amoeba for the big 35. Sounds like some essential listening was picked up! :-)
btw – I have some ‘59 pickups from my Yamaha just sitting around…
Oh that’s right! I’d forgotten that came with Duncan 59’s… How much you want for them?
BTW, how crazy busy are you guys? Would be cool to hang before the wedding if time permits…
I wouldn’t ask you money for them…, maybe we can work a trade or something – you shouldn’t have to pay for them. They have nickel covers.
JC wants to go to another art show at the place we went last time on March 7 (Sat) at night if you are game… other than that I’m/We’re pretty booked!
Update:
The Voodoo Labs GCX looks to be the way to go for me and the Mesa. It allows you to not only switch pedals but also combine pedal switching ALONG WITH switching CHANNELS on the mesa. So you can assign any combo of pedals and channels through one unit. And it is a little over half the price.
And you keep your pedals off the floor so they are safe.
