I’m Still Alive, This Blog Isn’t

1. Sorry.

2. All is well. It’s just that I really only find myself with time to deal with twitter, and even that gets left aside more often that not.

3. This, of course, may lead you to the inevitable conclusion that there’s not a real reason for me to have this blog up in the first place. To which, I must say, I concur.

4. So I’m going to be rethinking this space. Maybe take it out, maybe leave it. Not sure. Dunno. We’ll see. Hidey-ho. But if I leave it — and here is where the magic happens, kids — it will have to become something different. Something a little more interesting. And something that I’ll enjoy enough over a long period of time to actually keep coming back to it.

5. Any suggestions? I’m all ears. And two earrings. And a pair of glasses and some shorts.

6. My next feature spec is about 75% finished, and I will have my first draft completed by Saturday. Huzzah!

WTF? Of The Day

Found outside the parking structure at Disneyland.

Is this really something the general public should be given access to? WTF?

Faith

So if I believed in God, I’d say he was trying to fuck me.

Outlining had been progressing nicely on the first spec up on the roster. I was in fact scheduled to finish it up today, and after taking tomorrow to work on a TV pilot with a friend, I was looking forward to writing pages this Friday.

For me, writing pages is the real fun part of the process. Outlining and treatment writing are the logistical heavy lifting of the process, and at least for me at this point, still a bit cumbersome (though absolutely necessary).

So right after lunch, I walked into the office to wake the computer up and finish the outline, and the screen wouldn’t turn on. The computer was fine, mind you – I could restart it, adjust volume, the whole nine – I just couldn’t see anything.

Which as you can imagine, is not so helpful when one is trying to write down and organize story beats.

Apparently there is a known issue with a certain model of graphics card made by the company Nvidia (I’d link to an article about said issue but I’m writing this on my phone, which has no cut and paste functionality see here and here). Users of Dell, Apple, and HP laptops have been dealing with this issue for the last 8-10 months.

Today the issue picked me. So here I am at the Apple Store at The Grove in L.A., looking at a two hour wait to talk to an Apple Genius, who will then take my machine and tell me I’m looking at between 3-14 4-6 days for them to replace the entire motherboard to my laptop.

All of this happening, of course, less than a month after I quit my job to focus on writing full-time.

Like I said, if I still believed in God…

Phase One: Complete

Thanks to Angelman, the audio referenced in my previous post has now been retrieved from a 12-year-old VHS tape.

Next up: proper transfer of the old Super-8 material.

(This will be followed by Phase Three: Merging of audio and video into viewable form, and then Phase Four: OPERATION UPLOAD).

Yes, I am making this sound like a much bigger deal than it actually is. But it’s the holidays, man — what’s wrong with a sense of wonder and impending joy?
